Operations - The Idea

 Operations

My layout exists to run Operating sessions of about 2 hours.

The timetables were put together by my good friend  Geoff Mathias, an ex SAR/AN/ARTC Guard and Train Controller. So he knows his stuff. Geoff was based at Tailem Bend for a while so he knows the south line intimately and knows what trains ran and what their jobs were. Ask him about rounding up cattle at Wirrega at 3am some time.

The layout covers Operations from Mile End Yard, Dry Creek Yard and Adelaide Railway Station to South Australia's South East and into Victoria via the Heywood branch-line.

Freight, livestock, grain and people are the main commodities shipped by rail across the layout. Freight to and from Melbourne is shipped via Heywood. Industries along the track reflect the agricultural nature of the district the line runs through. The huge paper plant at Snuggery is represented by the Apcel Paper  which sends its products both east and west off the Millicent branch-line. Blue Lake is the major hub for traffic heading to and from the major cities and is the place where VR crews finish their job and SAR crews take over and vice versa.

Each towns operations are detailed in the Operations - The Towns page and each Trains role is detailed in the Operations- the Trains page.
